Texting and 10DLC

Texting golfers is the most effective way to confirm tee times and fill slow ones. It also comes with carrier rules. Here is what they are and what we handle for you.

What 10DLC is

10DLC stands for 10-digit long code: a normal local phone number used by a business to send texts. US mobile carriers require every business that texts from a local number to register who they are (the brand) and what they send (the campaign). Unregistered messages are filtered or blocked. This applies to every business and every software provider, not just TeeMarshal.

What we do

  • Set up a local number in your area code that belongs to your course.
  • Submit your brand and campaign registration to the carriers on your behalf.
  • Show the registration status under Settings, Messaging.

What we need from you

  • Your legal business name, exactly as it appears on your IRS paperwork.
  • Your EIN.
  • Your business address.
  • A contact name, email, and phone number.

The most common reason a registration is rejected is a business name or address that does not match the EIN record. Copy them from your IRS letter if you can.

While registration is pending

Carrier review is outside our control and can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. In the meantime:

  • Confirmations, reminders, and delay notices are sent from a shared TeeMarshal toll-free number that is already verified.
  • Marketing campaigns by text are blocked until your registration is approved. Email campaigns are not affected.

Once approved, everything sends from your own local number and campaigns are unlocked.

Consent: who you can text

The booking page shows this checkbox, word for word, with your course name filled in:

Text me booking confirmations, reminders, and occasional offers from {course}. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.
Which texts need which consent
Type of textExamplesWho receives it
TransactionalConfirmation, reminder, frost delay, cancellationAny golfer who gave a mobile number when booking
MarketingOffers, slow-day specials, campaignsOnly golfers who have opted in to texts

The wording is fixed and cannot be edited, because the carriers approve your registration based on it. Every opt-in and opt-out is recorded in a consent log that cannot be changed. For golfers you import from another system, see the consent section of importing your data.

STOP and HELP

  • STOP opts the golfer out immediately. They get one confirmation message and no more texts from your course. Their profile shows the opt-out.
  • UNSTOP or START opts them back in.
  • HELP replies with your course name and how to reach you.

Other replies from golfers land in your Messages inbox, threaded by golfer, and staff can answer from the course number.

Quiet hours

Texts are held during your quiet hours, 9:00 pm to 7:00 am course time by default, and sent when quiet hours end. Two exceptions go out right away because the golfer needs them: same-day delay notices and cancellation notices. Campaigns cannot be scheduled inside quiet hours.

Monthly allowances

Text message allowance by plan
PlanTexts included per course, per month

Texts beyond your allowance are billed at our carrier cost plus a small handling margin, on your regular invoice. Long messages count as more than one text; the campaign composer shows the count before you send. See pricing for details.
